 I was lucky to become a Nanny to my second grandchild just before last christmas and this coming year will be amazing with them staying over Christmas Eve to share the magic of christmas morning.

Handmade flower October tutorial for Off The Rails Scrapbooking.

In the past I have made some homemade flowers, a friend of mine asked if I could do a tutorial on how I made my bead decorated flower I had used on one my layouts she had seen. This is a similar flower I have just made using these materials: Chiffon material strips 7cm x30cm, cotton thread, fine embroidery needle, beads, brads for centre decoration.

Fold the strip of material and pin to make a strip 3.5 x 30cm. I threaded a long thin embroidery needle (a beading needle will do the job) with matching cotton thread, knotted one end and sewed approx 1/3 from the raw edges using a running thread .

By pulling the thread up tight, gathers the strip into a circle, ensure the raw edges are tucked through to the back to form a neatly gathered centre to the flower. Sew a few stitches to join the edges together to ensure the flower stays tightly gathered.

 

















I like to use small stitches to close the edges together to finish the circle neatly.

I selected an 'Antique Button- Brad' from Kaszazz and placed it in the centre spreading the bars out at the back of the flower to secure it in place.

I chose Beadz 1.8mm 'Black seed- rainbow' and using the Button Brad as a guide for my circle, pushed the needle from the back of the flower to the front, then individually threaded each bead onto a beading needle after placing the needle through to make a small stitch as shown in the picture below.

To ensure the beads sit evenly, I every so often thread my needle back through groups of bead again, a few at a time,  and again on completion of the circle before I push the needle through to the back to tighten the beads. I finish of by sewing a few stitches to secure the thread.

You could leave the flower as it is, or cut the folded edge by putting the scissors into the fold and cut the fold to seperate the flower into 2 layers then fray the edges to soften.

All about the timing: Scrap It With Attitude DT Inspiration

Octobers Theme over at Scrap It With Attitude is 'More than three photos'. My trip to Switzerland was the perfect photo shoot for this theme as it seemed to take more than one push of the button and many photos to get that 'Perfect Snapshot' on a moving Bus/Train. I suppose you can say that "It's All About The Timing" as anything from people, trees, tunnels (oh my gosh the Swiss are great at making tunnels, they have had a lot of practise there seems to be one around each bend lol), posts even other buses, boats and trains seem to get in the way of a fantastic photo opportunity.

I prepared my piece of travel paper from Kaisercraft with white gesso before using my Tim Holtz 'Doily' stencil and moulding paste. When it was dry I used my water colour paint and added a range of different shades of green and brown to represent the natural elements that sometimes got in the way. I then sprayed Dylusions Ink Chopped pesto over my new stencil 'elongated hexagons' from Studio Calico and splattered some of the Pesto, White linen and London Blue Dylusions Ink over the page.

I found my camera stamps and used the words Click and Capture to stamp around the page and my date stamp to remind me when I was in this wonderful country.  I have a piece of cardboard from a box I tore up that makes fantastic lines like little tracks when you ink the edge with StazOn ink and use it as a stamp.
The small photos were placed behind a 'LA DE DAH' photo booth frame to show some of the great 'not' perfect shots taken in my attempt to get the perfect picture postcard photo. I inked the frame with 'black soot' distress ink from Tim Holtz and stamped a world stamp from Kaisercraft 'now boarding' with StazOn on the bottom of the frame.

The papers and paper elements I used to back and layer behind my main photo was from a selection from The Kaisercraft's 'Mister fox' collection, Secret Bird Society Collection 'Mystery' and 61/2 paper pad 'Now Boarding'. On the Snap-Shot tag I wrote some of the things that I'm sure purposefully (lol) jumped into my photo shots.

Other elements added were the wood veneer camera from Studio Calico (Inked with Tim Holtz Distriss Ink Spiced marmalade', my wording was done with an old fashion mini label maker and to finish off I used 'stormy sky' distress ink from Tim Holtz to soften and blend the edges of the page.

Fathers Day Card- Sept Off the Rails Scrapbooking

With Fathers Day upon us again, I thought I'd share the card that I made for my dad.

 My background was started with gloss card stock (as I couldn't find my matte card stock) and I folded in half and coated it with white gesso to give it a matte finish and ensure that my inks would adhere and dry properly. As I planned my next layers, I explored my stash of papers to find some masculine papers. We had just been overseas and I thought the compass and time piece papers were quite appropriate, I had just been making a clock layout so I still had my clock stamp from Kaszazz on the table; so I stamped one onto to the backing paper with black ink and one some antiqued coloured paper from Kaszazz with red ink. I began my layering by using my spiderweb stencil and Tim Holtz Distress Ink 'Vintage photo' and then used Distress Ink 'Stormy Sky' to give the centre of the clock some colour. Next I cut and tore piece of paper and placed them onto the card and added some brass cogs and wheels I'd purchased from Simon Says Stamps and black cotton. I backed a photo of my dad, inked some die cut  alphabet letters I had cut in white paper with my Kaszazz die cut and using the lid of my water spray bottle printed some circles around and using some watered down black acrylic paint and Dylusions 'London Blue' Ink spray I splattered some colour around. To finish off the card I added cork chevron arrows from Studio Calico.

Die cut Sept Scrap it with attitude.

Scrap it with Attitude theme for September is Die Cuts. Switzerland is an amazing country, in every town we went to  we always saw beautiful clocks and always gold trimmed with the steeples in green cooper. I had a die cut of a clock face which I thought would be perfect to frame one of my favourite clock tower photos. I also used the die cut as a mask on the background to add another dimension and use for die cuts.

The background was achieved by covering a 12"x12" European patterned page from a Kaisercraft paper pad 'Timeless Classics' with white gesso, when dry I placed the die cut onto the page and then sprayed Dylusion Ink Spray 'London Blue' and ' Vibrant Turquoise', spraying each ink with water after each application then I removed the die cut and held the paper upright to allow the ink to run to the bottom of the page.

I first covered the die cut with white gesso before covering it with gold Jo Sonja acrylic paint and putting it aside to dry. I searched my stamp collection and found the perfect clock stamp which I'd purchased from Kaszazz and using Staz On black, stamped it over the page. I also stamped it onto a jade green shimmer paper from Kaszazz with gold ink and added embossing powder and after using my heat gun to emboss the image I punched it out using my large circle punch also from Kaszazz. 

Other elements I added included 3 different types of washi tape which had been purchased through Simon Says Stamps and Kaszazz, scraps from my paper stash and a 12"x12" 'Timeless Classics' paper pad from Kaisercraft which I edged with several different Tim Holtz distress ink including 'Vintage photo' and 'Iced Spuce', and lots of black cotton. Before adding my photo I splashed the paper with the Dylusion Inks I used for the background, watered down black Jo Sonja acrylic paint and white gesso.

Off the Rails Scrapbooking Sept Mood board: Free Yourself- Living the Dream

This is the wonderful Off the Rails Scrapbooking September Mood Palette my inspiration for my Design Team layout piece grew from.

My daughter Bec had the amazing opportunity to dance in the OzScot Australia Highland Dance Display Troop at the Basel Tattoo in Switzerland last month and I was also lucky enough to be there to see her dream come true.  This was her first trip overseas and was a bit nerve wrecking for both her and me. 'Free yourself' was so appropriate for her during this incredible journey as she felt she grew as a person and gained independent freedom.

The background was created by using my 'Finnabair' Prima stencil with molding paste then spraying some different blue watercolours and Dylusion Ink Spray London blue over the page.  I mixed gold Jo Sonja acrylic paint with molding paste and used my star stencil to make stars to represent the flashes from the cameras in the stands.  While it was still tacky I sprinkled gold embossing powder over it so when I used my heat gun it gave the paste an embossed look. I then splattered watered down paint in blue, black and gold over the top.

For my layers I started with washi tape with gold clocks on it (representing the hours of work the team worked prior and during this time and also how it took time and hard work to reach her dreams). I inked and stamped script on some plain and patterned papers from my stash and edged them with gold paint and 'Black Soot' Tim Holtz Distress Ink and the added journaling and words were from Kaisercraft 'Kaleidoscope'. The other additions included the chipboard scrolls which were paint with black gesso, a wood camera embellishment painted gold and  some gold and white embossed music papers I cut to make the tags. The costumes were handmade by an amazing OzScot member with  2km of black tulle used and an incredible amount of cotton, so to finish off the layout I added black cotton and tulle.

Scrap It With Attitude- Chipboard DT inspiration.August

This is my first layout with Scrap It With Attitude as a Design Team Member. 

My inspiration came from my recent trip to the Borromean Islands in Italy and the most amazing Isola Bella Palace Gardens I visited whilst on my Switzerland holiday last month. I was very lucky to have received a fantastic pack of Molossi chipboard from my win on the Scrap It With Attitude May challenge. In the pack was a beautiful archway, it was perfect for my photo.

My background paper was Kaisercraft 'Knickers', I covered it with white gesso and then wiped sections back to show more of the flowers  in some areas than others. 

The Molossi Chipboard Archway was painted with black gesso and then with a sponged with white gesso when the black was dry. 

The next step was to use modelling paste to produce the bricks and flora which would be on base of the photo and either side of the arch.

 

The bricks were made using 'Kaszazz' brick stencil, and when the paste was dry I used grey, black and rust watercolor to tie and blend the brick work in with the stone work in the photo.

The flora was made using Tim Holtz collection Doily stencil, and when the paste was dry I used a range of green tone watercolors to blend and tie  the background to the the ivy from photo .

 I used some orange and deep red Prima flowers and  I painted large white flowers with distress stain 'marmalade' and small white flowers with lemon watercolor. I placed black cotton behind the flowers and added a tag which I'd painted with white gesso and added a range of distress ink including 'stormy sky', 'black ink', 'frayed burlap' and 'peeled paint' before tying on a piece of green cotton , from a 'Depot, Band' roll that I had purchased in Basel Switzerland.
