Off the Rails Scrapbooking: Loved One.

This page was inspired by my grandparents, and the strong family beliefs and values they had: family is all important and hard work is challenging but worth putting in for the wonderful rewards we get in life.

I placed Mont Marte Impasto on Kaszazz background paper with a spatula and then when it was partially dry I used a Kaszazz scroll stamp to stamp impressions into it to add texture. After letting it dry I placed the quote onto the paper and then used  slightly watered down Jo sonjas's yellow oxide paint to add colour to tie the quote and background together and then some Mont Marte modelling paste to soften and lift the impressions off the page and blend the quote into the layout.

 The quotes I chose shares my feeling about how important my grandparents were to our family and how we continue those beliefs and values through our lives and with our own families.

The papers I used behind the photo were chosen from my scrap collection and came from many different sources. The dark and light textured card reminded me of the connection my grandparents had to the earth as they were always in the vegie garden or down the beach fishing; the richness of the earth with the contrast of the sand.

I finished the layout with a range of flowers, cotton cord from Kaszazz, a framing stamp using Crafters ink and circles made with tubes using carbon black and ultramarine deep blue Jo Sonja's paint. The edge of the papers and the edges of the layout were blended with Tim Holtz  Ranger Distress Ink Vintage photo to complete the look.

White with Grape Challenge.

My grand daughters two favourite things are purple and her baby brother so I thought that this would be the perfect photo for this challenge.

I began my layout by applying Mont Mante modelling paste over a brickwall stencil (from Kaszazz) to several places on my textured 12"x12" white page ( the photo has given the paper a purple hue but it is actually white), after it dried I sprayed sections with Ranger Dylusions Ink Spray Crushed Grape ranging from light to heavy coverage. To reintroduce white to the page I stamped dots and embossed them white; using this technique I found it added shine and texture.

Using the stencil again I reapplied some modelling paste to the lower brick stencilling and dried it with a heat gun until it puffed up giving another dimension to the page. Adding water to some Jo Sonja Dioux Purple artist paint I used a small paint brush to place more colour between the bricks and encouraged it to wash downwards by adding more water whilst holding the paper vertically. 

Embellishments that I added included: Kaszazz flowers that I added colour (white and purple Jo Sonja artist paints) and brads to the centres, a chipboard butterfly I embossed white and a small love heart. I handmade 2 tags using a heart stamp with black crafters ink , a dot stencil with white modelling paste and the black crafters ink and white ink pens to define the heart stamp. I found the perfect ribbon to make the 3rd tag that had the words I felt perfectly described are the ways that Imi shows her little brother Zander how much she loves him, I used the Diox purple watered down paint to soften  the edges of the ribbon and complement the other tags.   

I used my favourite background stamp to tie the background together and a square stitch stamp to form frames for the letters of my grand kids I stamped onto the page with perfect medium (Kaszazz) and then embossed white. I finished off the photo with backing onto a distressed edged piece of grape card added white corner framelits to two corners and then placed it onto 2 pieces of distressed white cheese cloth.

Golden Haze

After a long week of extremely hot weather my friend Fiona came up with the fabulous idea to go to Beachport for a swim to cool off. After our 30min drive we brought fish and chips and went to our favourite beach spot. What a fantastic sight was bestowed on us, the smoke from the fires in the Ngarkat Conservation Park  250km away contributed to an amazing sunset which I couldn't resist to take photos of.

I created the background with Mont Marte modelling paste using a spatula to sweep the paste across the page and my fingers to spread the paste over a seashell stencil to give the shells added texture. Mixing Jo Sonja's artist paints Turners Yellow and Napthol Red Light enabled me to make the Tangerine colour I needed for the challenge and with the addition of various amounts of water I produced the watercolour affect and the deeper splats of colour . 

Of course Sebastian our cat had to as usual checkout my new page and tell what he thought.

To add depth to the page I used 'Crafters Ink Black' and paint from my 'Pitch Black Adirondate Acrylic Paint Dabber' and different size tubes to stamp circles and my favourite background stamp which I have had for years is from Kazass.  The photo was edged with 'Crafters Ink Black' and backed with papers from my stash, I distressed the edges and inked them with 'Color Box Ink Orange' before placing them on top of rough edged white cheese cloth  to add to the dimension. 

Other elements I used to embellish my page were shells and things I have collected from the beach and threads of DMC cross-stitch cotton.

I thought the words 'Golden haze' captured what the sky looked like as we sat there on the beach looking across the sand and bay of our cool retreat.

Earth, Fire, Air and Water

Earth, Fire, Air and Water was the theme for the Hairdressers competition my daughter was asked to be a model for. Her hair style and head piece was a magnificent spiderweb design and working with her hair designer she had to choreograph a dance to perform on the stage wearing the costume and head piece... very tricky it was huge. We were very excited when they won 3rd prize against some very talented designers and dancers.

I wanted to produce a page that would capture the moment for Bec and this is it.

The paper I chose fitted perfectly with the theme; the black textured card had a handmade feel to it and had leaves embedded into it which added texture and depth to the page. 

In Bec's hair was a big hairy toy spider which she named Harry and it became a pet of sorts after the event. So I wanted to include a cute little spider on the page to remind us of him. Using silver thread from DMC and a fine sewing needle I created a spider web over the page writing the words that I felt were some of the keys elements of the days performance and event; Hair, Dance and Lauren who designed and created the hair. The lettering for the title of the page was cut out using a Cricut die-cutting machine using card stock in colours associated with the words and making 'Earth' the standout word as this was the theme subject Lauren had chosen for her creation.

Off the rails height challenge

Imogen Lee my beautiful grandaughter.

Pretty pink for a little girl was the perfect choice for this page.  I used kaisercraft and 2crafty products on this page along with lace doilies and crocheted flowers in muted colours to complement the soft colours in the photo. Buttons and metal embellishments came from my collection of odds and sods tin.  2 large flowers in deeper tones enhance the details of the photo.

Imogen has always been known as Imi so I used chipboard letters from Kaiser to represent this. She also answers to "Emu" thanks to her grand-dad!!! (thanks hubby). The letters were inked with Colourbox ink and finished with a coat of Royalcoat Dimensional Magic to add shine and dimension. The fine metal butterfly was used to balance the project. 

I used Dimension Magic on the swirls and butterfly as well to add depth to the flower cluster.
I was really proud of this page and it hangs on my lounge wall, I think it's nearly as beautiful as my granddaughter.

Zoo Fun memories

What fun we had visiting the zoo, I hadn't been there since my children had been very young, so when I took my daughter aged  16  to the zoo with Chris we saw the zoo through the eyes of a child again. Magical.

I wanted to show all the animals we saw but of course that's not practical, so I used small photos of all our favourite animals and arranged them around as a mosaic. Matting each on black card with a narrow border gave each photo definition.

At the zoo we stopped for lunch in one of their grassed areas, my sister and Chris had a wonderful game of peekaboo behind the big tree, what a wonderful moment between mother and child so I decided to use this as the focus of the page layout. I used Fiskars Circle shape template and the shape cutting tool to cut the circular frame around the main photo.

This trip to the zoo brought back wonderful memories for me and my daughter and it was fantastic to see my sister and her son making the same memories in their own way.

scrapbooking with buttons

Simple but effective.
Using the colours from this engaging photo of Pa and his grandie I explored my button collection to find just the right ones. The buttons gave an otherwise flat page, dimension and depth.
The background paper was chosen for the words and I used chipboard letters which I inked myself for the title. They described perfectly the interactions that were happening between the 2 of them.

Pa and Chris don't get to see each other as often as they like as Chris and his family live over 400 km away, it was a wonderfully special moment.
