Hi, Scrappy Chat Designs friends!

It’s Sandi and I’d like to share with you how I created this layout using this month’s fabulous ‘Vintage Garden’ kit.

 

  For this layout I chose 'Stopwatch' and the reverse side of 'Blossom' from the 'Faded Empire' paper collection. It's like time had been wound back for my mum when we discovered this photo of her dad/my pop. Great memories that had been forgotten.

 

I love how you can make so many different designs from each kit with the fantastic selection of product.

Valuable heirlooms- Scrapbooking Top 50 Australia- May DT Inspiration

Wonderful memories of childhood and family are valuable heirlooms. I found some old slides years ago and eventually I have got around to scrapbooking some of my Pop and Dad with a very young me.

Items used include:

• White card stock 12"x 12".
• White modeling paste- Monte Marte
• Assorted paper from 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" Kaisercraft paper pad 'Curiosity'... torn into strips.
• Tim Holtz dylusion sprays- 'Tangerine Dream', 'Dirty Martini',' London Blue' and ' Crushed grape'
• Resin flower - Resin Rainbow
• Prima flowers
• Memory Maze Chipboard ' Clocks and Clogs'
• Brass embellishments including key and lacework shapes.
• Glass butterfly embellishment.
• 'Public Library' designer brads.
• Prima Wire thread- black
• Mica Colour 'Vintage'- metallic pigment watercolour paint. (Clock and hands)
• White gesso to prime clock and hands before painting.
• Black sharpie pen for border.
• Bella Krafty Goodness Paperz 'Chatterbox' - words 
• Water spray bottle (small) 
• Black cotton

 

BACKGROUND:

• I first gave the paper a light spray of water in the area in which I was going to spray my colour.
• Using the spray bottle in one hand and the dylusions 'Dirty Martini' in the other I sprayed toward the edge with both at the same time. 
• Then repeated the process with the 'Tangerine Dream' and water. 
• Taking the sprayer out of the bottles I used the tube to flick colour around, repeating with all the colours I previously mentioned.
• I also added some white gesso thickly around the area where the photos will be placed.

CLOCK PIECES:

• Paint with gesso and allow to dry
• Paint with Brass Mica color and then add some teal before it's totally dry so they will blend.

To complete the page I added layers of torn stripes of paper, Black cotton, twisted wire and then backed the photos with several papers before adding the flowers and additional embellishments.

Hi, Scrappy Chat Friends, I'm Sandi and I thought I'd celebrate my first kit as a design team member with this layout. Birthday wishes- OTR DT March Inspiration Tutorial

We all love getting a handmade card, there is so much thought and love that goes into making a card especially for you. I have made this one for a very special friend. Our Mood board has striking colours and the word 'Relax', and I'm sending wishes of fun and relaxation to my special friend who works so hard.

This month over at Off The Rails Scrapbooking we are lucky to have 2 amazing sponsors for our March Challenge. This project uses Imaginarium chipboard and I'm looking forward to using Memory Maze Chipboard in my future OTR challenge inspiration as they are sponsoring in the next few months.

Products I used included:

• White Card stock 15cm x 21cm - folded to make a card.
• Ranger 'Multi Medium Matte' Gel
• Credit card or scrapper to apply gel medium to cardstock
• Spatula
• Linda Stamp gang Magicals- 'Tibetian Poppy Teal' & 'Pondarosa Pines Olive' 
• Water spray bottle and a paint brush that will hold LOTS of water (to borrow a phrase from my scrapping buddy Fiona Paltridge... "Water is your friend". Thanks for teaching me that Fiona. <3 
• DecoArt Medium- 'Crackle Paste' White.
• Stencil - Crafters workshop 6"x6" 'Mini Texturized'
• Kaisercraft 6"x6" paper collection - 'Kaleidoscope'  & "Sandy Toes" & 'Vibrant Turquoise'
• Tim Holtz Distress Ink 'Dirty Martini' and 'Black Marble'
•  Dina Wakley White Gesso
• Feathers collected from the local park with my grandkids.
• Selection of small beads and glitter; I used Czech beads and glitter I brought from 'Lincraft'
• Imaginarium ' Deco Oval'- I cut one in half as I only wanted some to peek out from behind the paper stack.
• Black cotton
• StazOn Ink Black
• 'Glossy Accents' glue from Ranger
• Cardboard for lifting your feature paper pieces and heading
• Cherub embellishment ' Steampunk' by Solid Oak

1. Cover the surface of the card with a thin layer of Multi Medium Gel

2. Add a small amount of water into a palette and add a very small amount of 'Magicals' into the water, it is highly pigmented so a little goes a long way.

 

3. Spray your paper lightly with water and load your brush with water. Dipping your brush into your paint use dabbing motions to add your paint to the paper. You can spray more water at different angles to make it spread and if you get too much on your paper you can use a wet one to absorb some off your paper. I like to pick up my paper and move it around to get drips and runs. If you splat the paint with water &/or with another colour you can get extra patterns form in the paint. It's all about practice and playing to get use to how water & paint work together.

4. When your paint is dry, place the stencil onto the paper where you want the chosen pattern to be and using a spatula smear the Crackle Paste over evenly. Remove the stencil and allow to dry.

5. While you wait, chose your papers and I tore them into stripes instead of cutting it as I wanted a rough effect not straight lines. When the crackling is dry, layer your long lengths of paper along the folded edge and glue down. Using a spatula you can smear White Gesso over the edges to soften the colours of your papers, it's up to you if you how much you put on and how thickly.

6. In the palette add some Multi Medium Matte and mix in some coloured beads and using the spatula to add them to your card. I followed the lines of the centre of my paper strips. The medium will dry clear. I added a few beads of each colour and small amount of glitter on after putting the medium on.

7.  Break the Imaginarium Chippy oval into half and stamp on StazOn Ink. By giving it a coat of Gloss Accents glue it will dry to give it a glossy and 3 dimensional effect. It does take a while to dry so while you wait you can edge each piece of your paper you want to stack together with white gesso, edge your card with StazOn Black Ink.

 8. Place your feathers onto some paper toweling and spray them with 'Dirty Martini' and 'Vibrant Turquoise' Distress ink. I was surprised that the Turquoise came out more blue than I expected but it was perfect match for the Magical ink.

9. Time to put it all together, layer each of your elements where you want to like it , move it around until you are happy and glue it down. Don't forget to put your cotton behind your paper layers and place pieces of cardboard behind your picture paper and title to give your card added dimension and height.

Precious treasure - Off The Rails Design Team March Challenge.

Hi, great to have you drop by to check out my latest layout. The photo I have chosen for this layout is taken when I was only a little girl and flower girl for my auntie's wedding. It captures a quiet relaxing time with my Nana during a break in the excitement. I scanned this photo from a slide in my parents slide collection box which I see as a 'Precious Treasure' filled with memories.

The equipment and supplies I used included:

• 12" x 12" white card stock. 
• Mont Marte Modeling paste- white
• Multi Medium Matte 'Ranger' (gel medium)
• 'Dina Wakley' White Gesso
• Selection of mixed small beads in pale blue and greens
•  Prima resin frame- small square white frame.
• 'Precious Treasure' and 1 of '2 Dragonflies in a board' Imaginarium Designs Chip board.
• Kaisercraft and assorted flowers and silver wing embellishment.
• 'Finnabair' Mica Powder- 'Deep Water' and water to make splats to finish page.
• 'Tim Holtz' Distress ink - Shabby Shutters and Stormy Skies.
• 'Ranger' Glossy Accents- glue
• 'Tinby' Metallic melts - 'First light', 'Sherwood Green', 'Glistening snow' 
• Spatula, palette and paint brush.

• Firstly I used my spatula to smear modeling paste thickly in one line from top to bottom. While wet sprinkle some of the assorted beads along the areas that won't be covered by the frame. 

• Work on each piece of chipboard until finished and then start next piece of chippie.While it dries paint gesso onto the dragonfly and words.  This seals the chipboard so the colour holds better and keeps the distress ink wet long enough to be able to quickly sprinkle some 'Sherwood Green' Metallic melts on. Melt the powder with your heat gun. Add some 'Stormy Sky' and add some ' First Light' Metallic melts on. If you remove the heat quickly and sprinkle some powder on quickly the powder will stick to the hot melted powder. Layer the colours until you are happy with the effect. 
•  Adding some more beads to some gel medium and using a spatula place them in any gaps that you may have in your other beads on the page. The gel medium will dry clear. 
• I mixed some Mica powder with water and lightly brushed over sections of the frame and used the left overs to splat over page. 
• Glue frame, flowers, words and embellishments on with glossy accents glue.

My "Cute Little Man"- Scrappy Designs 'Stars Fly' February Kit.

Hi, I'm really  excited to share with you that I am now a Design Team Member over at 'Scrappy Chat Designs'.

 As an 'Arty Chic'  I'm looking forward to sharing with you my ideas and techniques with the amazing products in this months  'Flying Stars" kit.

Today I will be sharing with you how I produced my background with my new favourite 'Colour Crush' powders by Tinby Designs.

 

Here's my layout-  'Cute Little Man'

Step 1: Place a small amount of Colour Crush into a palette, I used the end of my spatula to ensure I could control the amount and didn't spill any.

 

Step 2: Using the plastic pipette add a small amount of water to the powder, depending on the colour intensity you want depends on the ratio between the powder and the water.

 

 

Step 3:  Using some scrunched up paper towel, blot some of the ink onto two sections onto your page and then using a clean wet-one, blot over the sections to soften the areas and edges.
 

Step 4:  Continue to add ink until you are happy with the shape; remember to leave lots of white space. If you are unsure it’s a great idea to practice on a spare piece of white card until you feel more confident.

  
 

Step 5: Let your ink dry and add some more with the paper towel if you feel you need some more depth to your areas. I added a little more after the photo was taken to make the shapes a little less square.
